Guia is a lovely Portuguese village in the Central Algarve west of Albufeira and on the EN125. Just look out for the roundabout sporting the chicken statues, Guia’s unofficial mascot. Guia is famous for its delicious chicken (frango) piri-piri restaurant dishes. Piri-piri sauce is finely chopped chilli's in olive oil and is best added before or during cooking but can be added afterwards.
Portuguese families and tourists alike flock to the restaurants for their chicken dishes along with the local chatter and noisy atmosphere that goes with the meal.
If the sanitized atmosphere of a Colonel Saunders establishment is not to your taste then a visit to Guia’s ‘frango-land’ is definitely worthwhile.
With Albufeira just a short trip away, Guia is the perfect place to stay in Portugal for family summer holidays.
